Complete Skateboards FAQs

What is Urban Warrior ’99?

Urban Warrior ’99 was an experimental USMC military procedure carried out in 1999. The program was an attempt to create a new type of urban warrior that used a skateboard in combat. The idea may seem like something out of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles at first, but it actually yielded some interesting results. The purpose was to determine if skateboards could be useful in detecting trip-wires in buildings and to draw sniper fire in hopes of revealing their locations. Though the project was later scrapped, it left a relevant military legacy.

What country was skateboarding completely illegal in from 1978-1989?

Norway outlawed all use of skateboards anywhere for a period of eleven years between 1978-1989. The Norwegian government felt that the risk of accidents was so high while riding a skateboard, that any use of such a device could not be reasonably justified. Die-hard skaters compensated by building ramps and routes in nearby forests and other remote areas where law enforcement was scarce.

What is swingboarding?

Swingboarding is an interesting spin-off of skateboarding that was designed both to be fun and useful in training. A swingboard is a frame that suspends a harness and rider above the ground on a swing. The rider is harnessed to the suspending swing and a skateboard in also attached via another connection. This configuration allows the rider to swing about trying many different tricks and combos with no fear of falling. It is useful for cross-training and helping newer skateboarder’s learn tricks with no fear of falling.
